Lots of updates this time. Again, I waited an extra week before posting as I was working on something extra special. The news is that I now have a bass guitar I can record with, so I had to practice hard to get live bass into this next track.

After quite awhile spent on writing this song, mostly on guitar along with some vague ideas based off of stuff I’ve been exercising on the drums, adding a few bars every couple of days, I’m now in the 10 minute or so range. Most of the bass parts I had in the recording were about halfway in, I had to work hard this past week practicing so I could record these first few minutes of bass since I didn’t want to share part 1 without it. Adding piano to it, I’ve set that to a whole separate project in my priorities list. Making a live drum video (with live guitars) is higher on said list, but Electric Anvil Box does a decent enough job while the difference between live and software bass is too good to pass up.

There’s plenty of space for a lead in there, keys, audio or electronic effects and all that, and I’ve been having fun using the full thing to improvise along to, with either lead guitar or piano, but I don’t think I’ll be adding anything else to the track for now. I skipped etudes #20 which is just a classical guitar interlude that follows from #19’s chord progression, then it progresses to fade into the intro of #21. Better mic setup for my nylon strings is a big hurdle, and I’m stuck as to what the drums will be doing in that one, so that still occupies my thoughts while I move on to adding drums and bass to the rest #21.

The full version of the track in this video, with regular electronic anvil box drums and without the metronome is over there: https://bleedleaf.bandcamp.com/track/nylon-blue

As far as the live drums, I haven’t made any recording efforts since my latest youtube upload, which is one I made for my drum coaches over at drumeo last month, so I’m fine with sharing that. It’s at the edge of what I can do right now on the drums, much like the first track I mentioned in this post, and I’d have to put in a lot of hours on the groove still to get it to where I want it on the final video. Even though drums are my main gig here, I have so many things to invest time I need to pace my perfectionism a bit here. Learning how to mix good audio is one example, spending time with the guitars, learning to play bass and keys are others. Hoping you agree these recent examples show stark improvement and a step up from before these thus worthwhile efforts on these side fronts.

Like and let me know which of these projects you think deserve more of my attention. Engaging with my content really helps my music, and motivation! I appreciate any feedback. And Thanks for reading.
