Ok, well this has been sitting in the drafts folder long enough now. I was working on being further along with the Rabbit Hole part 3 update and be at point where I’m into follow-ups to that. Aside a little sidetrack for between part 2 and 3 though, there hasn’t been much progress with the drums since the last blog post. I’ve been putting in a lot of time on the pad and spending most of my time on the kit doing paradiddle related exercises, basic stuff, and going over older tracks. So notations and video on part 3 should be doable within the next month or so.

BDA #52, the main object of this post, is now halted in its ‘touch up and varnish’ phase (see description below) where it will remain as I work finishing up to the same point #53, and perhaps a few more.

Here’s the latest of the tracks I’ve been working on these past few months. It’s fairly simple I think. I’m posting the mp3 from the standard midi kit along with a video of me playing it a few days back.

So here is the result of one of the practice pad exercises I’ve been working on these past months. It will no doubt go through a few more transformations in the times ahead as I move over to practicing it on an actual drum set. It does use a few more cymbals and toms than I currently have on my kit, and obviously my original practice pad sticking will need to be modified slightly to accomodate for the fills, and for the toms’ and cymbals’ physical setup (no point in trying to fast-switch hands on the ride bell in-between snare hits, for example, when you can paradiddle them instead… duh). The placement of kick-bass hits might get tweaked a bit as well as I get comfortable with the groove, but mostly the main bass line’s modulations is where I’m thinking it could use additional changes.

In a no-doubt overambitious plan that’ll never get done, there’s also a few ideas for extra instrument add-ons floating around in the back of my head (like flutes, whistles, horns and trumpets or other wind/brass, etc), potentially making it much longer. I’m open to suggestions, so send your collaboration ideas, comments, feedback and such. It will be greatly appreciated.

In any case, it’ll join the other tracks in my experimental drum album on bandcamp sometime in the not-so-distant future

Once you’ve … I mean, eh… when they say it might and will charge you… uh… I, mm, think, perhaps, errh, is how maybe to say this, is that once you’ve seen a gold-pooping erotomaniac unicorn not only have you seen most, if not all, of them, hopefully, but you’ve probably seen enough to not believe in much of anything anymore and can’t wait, basically, long nor want for nothing less more or other than this hell to be over with so you can finally be dead.”

It’s about as best as I get it these days, which seems ok to me. For the most part, there’s a note here and there, practice practice practice. This is hard stuff, and still just beginner stuff. phew

There’s a bit of noise reduction and reverb added to the recording, and it was sped up by 220%. You can see the sheet music used scroll down in the video as the music plays. It doesn’t have the variations that came with the later editions, some are so incredibly nice, but it’s the version I got so I’m playing it :) I’ve already looked around in hopes of acquiring some flashier ones on the cheap, but it’s really low on my priorities for now.

The .wav file is also available on this bandcamp page, free to listen or download.

Classical Nightcore?

I’m at looking into fixing up the -bda- gallery page at this point. There’s four items to add so far, and I’ve worked up a better layout and such on the notepads. Going to start a new sequence after the digital-guin. Not restarting the numbering just creating sections with the current series starting off at beurq and spooky, then 022, 023 and so on.

I’ll keep on adding photos of the picture frames as I get funds to print them and stuff, but I’ll move that to a different page, and have the main gallery display the digital versions with links for downloading the highest quality file.

#024, codename “selfie”, was shared already on mastodon.social, you can check it out if you want, I guess. In any case, if you’ve read or scrolled this far, have a preview of #028. No name on this one.

Am aiming at posting all the newly finished bda along with the updated gallery page by the end of this coming weekend.
