Here’s a list of most of the media I ended up listening to last month. It took longer than I’d have like -it’s already the 5th, more on that after the list: Continue reading →

Weekly listens

02 Wednesday Aug 2017

So… wanted to get this done yesterday. Now I got even more listens coming in, listening to something right now! (Which I’ll pause and switch to something music while my attention is here)

Mostly just English podcasts and such, plus the arts history show Artracaille which is in French. Music playlists tend to be all over the place. I’ll start with that one then, since the shows I got noted down are all from last week, and use it as the time marker of sorts…

This week Artracaille was about a German artist, named Käthe Kollwitz, who worked with painting, printmaking and sculpture. The previous week was on a French printmaker, caricaturist, painter, and sculptor Honoré Daumier.

Sub.Media brought us Trouble #5 this weekend. Movement Defense Against State & Corporate Surveillance – You are being Watched
A fifth Burning Cop Car has also been set ablaze.

Another Honest Government Advert, this time on Wealth Care, from The Juice Media.

The Rebel Beat posted a special about Suena A Revolution and a summer playlist over on spotify.

There’s two The Final Straw episodes on this timeline: the one from the 25th with people from Radio98fm in Athens and the one from the 30th with an interview with author Margaret Killjoy on her book The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion.
Their blog also posted an archived episode from 2011: “On this, the anniversary of Sante Geronimo Caserio’s assasination in 1894 of French President Carnot, Bursts shared music about Caserio’s attentat (propaganda by the deed), music about Ravachol, about dynamite, about insurrection. The music is varied in style to say the least, but tied to the theme of direct actions.”

Horizontal Hostility came out with a 5th episode. This time with talking points around post-leftism, fascist creep, and Wolfi.

The week’s episode of Kile Line covers the recent demonstrations outside the Workhouse in St. Louis, Missouri.

Radical People Podcast came out with a first episode on the Tar Sands Blockade and Tree Sitting campaign of 2012-2013, I was just listening to ep2 called “Meat Anchors” about climbing and banner drops before writing this… fun stuff. Criminal dumping tho, I agree kinda stinks to go on record for…

Solecast #46: “Repression Is A Battlefield” talks with J20 defendant facing 75 years of jail time.

Revolutionary Left Radio put up an episode about the crisis in Venezuela and the Bolivarian Revolution.

I’m probably forgetting a few. I only started noting them down over the weekend but I’ll see about jotting this all down as I play them for the next posts, and there mostly all recurring shows anyhow … I can’t think of anything else for now.

I though ending the post with some more video links. BadMouse released a critique of UBI. Dick Coughlan has a new Racist Website Safari Hunt up as well as a more personal video explaining his health issues.

I was also discovering this Kevin Logan fellow and his “Decent of the Man-osphere” series which was kind of interesting… but then both his channels got deleted one then the other. So that’s that.

And this channel here, I also only recently found out and have been going through, which just recently published a nice take on immigration and the fall of Rome.

And that’s about it, since a week, for all the peeps and places I regularly click on these days. It’s Going Down is where I heard about many of these podcasts for the first time, so it’s a good idea to check them out. Speaking of which, I’m a go and turn back on this one here.

sub.media
-“it’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine” show, news and interviews with radicals involved in global revolution and resistance. Show is over but there’s always been more: much, anarchist films, clips, documentaries, archives, reports. If you miss(ed) it :( riot porn and taco loving trouble maker daddy Stimulator… just Frank now, and many other ninjas, and even more at IGD.
And then Dr. Bones, commie lover of cats, with other Gods&Radicals (how come people aren’t all atheists yet? nonetheless), interesting peeps to follow on the socials.

Speaking of, LSC, BadMouse, DRichard “The Dick” Coughlan, awesome collection of older and new stuff to go through, great to keep an eye on cause they tend to comment on the youtube posers, clickdrones, ancaps and such… sometimes. Tear down on some foil hat wearing or ad-chasing half reasoned word machine. Toxic subjects, fun and interesting videos, podcasts and stuff…

TheRebelBeat, formerly a great show on CKUT that lives on as an equally awesome monthly podcast. Class War on the dance floor.

thejuicemedia, if you miss(ed) the JuiceRapNews :( Last seasons were amazing.
Creators have moved on, to things like the Honest Government Adverts series. Great people. Funny guys these downunders. That’s interesting work they’re doing down there. But they’ll have to accept that they don’t come first, and that’s how things are going to be from now on. Now enough with the FAKE NEWS! it’s time for the funnies.

(So many more, hundreds of bookmarks, much tabs open… Along with the following, is mostly usually enough to satisfy my urges to interact with the outside world… eh… and from the odd from Cinemassacre or video game related thing in the background, provide for most of my online antisocial medication…)

…like these blogs: LawyersGuns&Money, (what can I even say at this point?)

and some more fun times, like xkcd, explosm,
existentialcomics, mathwithbaddrawings…

… for docs, libraries and archives, there’s a whole bunch I could paste over here. Like say, the waybackmachine, thoughmaybe.com, all the various wikimedia projects and wikis. The amount of stuff to learn and explore is mind boggling. It’s easy to get lost online. I think these are good places to start looking.

Basically, all the places I’ve been clicking on first for more or over the past several years. Kind of depressing actually, but I’m sure which agency that is that’s in charge of that will confirm this as pretty much accurate. Oh, and much shitposting over at facebook.com/groups/anarchistphilosophies/ before a comrade admin went full commie and kicked out the fascist ancap admins… and all the other admins too… if only facebuck was reality and not the other way around :/

doc binge

blog, documentaries, links

The past couple of weeks were totally unproductive. Shame, since before that I had managed to update my guitar page, clean up the menus, pretty much do the same with my desktop and organized my homefolders… then I watched some docs.

I was a bit worn out anyway, so coming across those links was timely enough. End result is that it took me longer to write this post than I anticipated, and basically making it about more than it was originally meant to be. Hardly even touched the guitar this week, but today was alright, managed to go through the set of songs without too many fatal errors, having to restart bars or sections entirely, stuff like that. I ramble on more about that on the page itself …

There’s also a bunch of backstories for various rpg characters I’ve been playing, either in video games or other, that I’ve been meaning to gather up in one place. It’s not quite done, and I have so many old files to look at … I’ll probably end up just backdating some posts, linking those and some relevant forums on my gaming page or w/e … Right, and I rummaged through my MTG cards some, shuffling around a bunch of decks and adding in plenty of new cards. Still no dedicated page for that, though I could just link to some deckbuilding communities or gamer hubs. tappedout.net is in short where I hang out when I look about those things online… which isn’t really that often.

So getting to those docs…

I had just previously added a bunch to a playlist (français) on the you’s tubes, but this latest, more intense, doc binge started up with HyperNormalization.

http://cdn.p138uk.thoughtmaybe.com/download/s_HyperNormalisation/HyperNormalisation.mp4

I got to it via thoughtmaybe.com, there’s a nice presentation on the various docs, videos and such, and their collection is an impressive selection of titles, so I took that as an opportunity to catch up on lots of them, many which didn’t even know were out there.

This past week’s doc binge:
-Bitter Lake, and The Century of The Self, also by Adam Curtis.
-Cointelpro 101 (fit in with the theme of a recent anniversary in Black Panthers history)
-Fascism Inc.
-NYPD Biggest Gang In New York
-The Power Principle
-Plutocracy, parts 1 and 2
-Beyond Treason
-China’s Dirty Secrets
-Culture Jam
-Generation Like
-Petropolis
-Subconscious War
-The Revolution Business
-The Fuck-It Point
Like I said, wasn’t taking any notes, don’t really feel like commenting right now, thoughtmaybe.com has nice summaries on them and all the ones I’ve listed there are available on their site, so you can look for them there.

I’ll likely end up using referring to some of those on a page I’m thinking up. A kind of “if you are reading this it’s because you are there” resistance-themed page around great docs, various events, protests, and the politics of revolution. I’m still keeping with the original plan of heading it with de la servitude morderne which is just awesome in my book … a page to talk about activism in film, great hubs on social critiques, major issues around world trade, communications, the environment, climate change, interesting people to follow for current news on those different topics.

Turns out there’s more stuff in there than it might seem… I didn’t want to spam my pages folder with too many pieces about this video or that one… blah blah blah… anyways, so the list is there. I’ve noted a few from the collection already I’m queuing up to watch next, and at least for now this post is here… perhaps I’ll come across it at some point to remind me and elaborate more… sorta “top 10” or favorites per topic / time period… idk… This place is more like a “talking to myself” kinda feel anyway. One idea is to set up my pages as a collection of notes, links and resources from which to share with, copy paste from, and perhaps assuming a particular topic is polished enough, point to in my online discussions… this place is still mostly a mess tho :D like an abandoned warehouse, decrepit factory or old ruins of some kind … at least the menus are nicer now
