Scalar Feels

Just to be honest for a quick second before getting into what I really wanted to write about to you today. Before falling on disability because of injuries and illness almost 10 years ago, which includes having survived through cancer, I had been playing classical guitar almost my entire life. Although I never got to have music become a source of livable income, I first started on the piano as a kid, then electric guitar and bass before making classical guitar my main dedication at some point between college and university. I also have increasingly bad tinnitus, pretty bad anxiety, and am somewhere out there on the spectrum. A whole bunch of things that aren’t making aging any easier.

I’ve been playing the drums almost exclusively for about five years now, after a few year of ‘forced retirement’ I actually needed to take a break from the guitar … If I had one thing to tell my past self, it would be to learn drums younger. I had plenty of opportunities to do so, despite the guitar being such a demanding master. After buying that acoustic bass last year, well, one thing led to another and now I can’t get off those nylon strings again. Happened at some point between taking a pause from the sticks and recording Scalar Feels. The video embedded below, also available as an audio file here. I have fun playing drums, writing for the drums I have no idea.

So I’ll end up posting about the new stuff at some point, I just spent almost two-months working on getting Accidental Notes ready for recording, etudes 26 and 27. It’s all classical guitar. It doesn’t really fit in with any of the other stuff so far, so the three pieces that make it up are getting their own album name. A demo version, the recording I’ll have on youtube at most a few days after posting this, is already on my bandcamp page.

I should be done with writing at this point, and aside from learning or re-learning some classics, I’ll focus on stepping up my drum workouts. I’ll be sharing the notations for all the latest music, not making it much of a priority though, unless I get some feedback or requests for it to convince me otherwise.

So no other projects going on this time posting here, I’ll give myself some time to hopefully make a better take of that last one before sharing it proper. Part 1, the Carnival in G, was going to be it’s own thing, but trying to end it making sense led to Part 3, Folk Jazz in E, which led to the thing being 10 minutes long. Part 2 turns out to be lots of fun so it’s all worth it I think. If I can’t get my best takes on them all at once, then I’ll settle for recording them separately instead of just cutting them out in parts in editing :D
It just really makes more sense for the video to have it all in one take.

That’s all I have for now.
Thanks for stopping by, please help me buy some new strings if you can.

Hey there, just a quick post to give an update on my latest track, Alien Party Horn. I really screwed up with the initial upload, the kick track wasn’t there and I hadn’t really noticed how much it messed with the levels on the synth. So I had to replace it, which turns out ok since I also took the opportunity to record live video of myself playing it on the guitars.

– Album on bandcamp –

I think you’d agree the few extra days were most definitively worth it.

Apologies for the severe lack of content these past few months, I’ve been working on several different projects and studying hard at music, spending practically every able minute I can on my instruments. Sadly, the harsher effects of my chronic health problems really hit me hard over the winter, so I didn’t come around to producing (recording etc) as much as I would have liked for you.

Hope you enjoy this one though, and hoping to find enough time to properly share about what happens in-between these posts before the next one since obviously, practicing and having fun doing it, and making music, is my first priority.

Thank for stopping by! See you next time.

Lots of updates this time. Again, I waited an extra week before posting as I was working on something extra special. The news is that I now have a bass guitar I can record with, so I had to practice hard to get live bass into this next track.

Once more I see the deadlines I set for myself come and go… sigh. I really don’t know what to say about it at this point, it’s been over a month. Anyway, the bass for the track has been done for several weeks by now, and the track has already been uploaded to my album on bandcamp, along with the next one, RH-19, or Nylon Blue as it seemed appropriate to call it.

Hey, I practiced really really hard on this. So I whiffed a note on the slide after the melody’s first repeat, the rest went flawlessly. Ornamentation, timing, timbre. Sounds great. That’s gotta be worth at least a dollar, right? Continue reading →

Not planning on posting another playlist again this month. Haven’t listened to that many shows at all. All caught up on a few though so I might get one out before the second half of next month. I haven’t been feeling all that great otherwise I have several new items for the bleedleaf digital art section of the website. Keeping up with the guitar practice has been hard enough, but it’s like I said in the previous post except I’ve been getting in a lot more in the few recent days. Might try recording the setlist for a day or two between here and the end of next week. Spent part of the day cleaning the guitar up, the keys needed fixing, and I should have new strings on it tomorrow at some point.

In a couple weeks then, late October at most, I should have a post about my media playlist since August, hopefully over half a dozen new bda and at least a few, plus a decent recording or two with the tuned up guitar. In the meantime, #36, the next instalment in the badly designed animals series of beautifully drawn art is already ready. So much so, it’s going to be an entry in the bleedleaf digital animations category also (ahead of #23, which I’m not sure will ever get done at this point):

Not going to make a playlist for this month. I hardly listened to or kept up with anything since that first week so it wouldn’t be much of a list anyway. And even though I’ve been pondering about writing something longer for the blog here all week, there’s nothing specific I’d really want to elaborate on right now. Did a lot of cleaning up around the apartment, in the mailboxes and stuff.

Another one of these months, not much else to mention about it. No progress on any BDA and only a handful of new drawings on paper. That page is worth a look at if you haven’t in a while.

Updated the classical guitar page a little, to reflect the different things I’ve been practicing recently. Slowed down a lot on that front. It’s been pretty much limited to the first few titles on most days, compared to the full days of playing and practicing I was often doing at the beginning of the month.

Not much of a post, but I didn’t want to end up with posting nothing at all for another month again. I’ll leave this open for now, but that’s probably it, and will click that publish button before I shut this off for today (<that was 3 days ago :P ). Maybe I’ll be more chatty next month.

Léonard is doing ok, but like me seems to be dreadfully under-stimulated. Sits at my feet or jumps on my lap when I’m sitting much more often, which is fun, but he’s been meowing way more often recently and sometimes loudly, which isn’t. He goes out even less than I do.

It’s about as best as I get it these days, which seems ok to me. For the most part, there’s a note here and there, practice practice practice. This is hard stuff, and still just beginner stuff. phew

https://dai.ly/x6lx1af

There’s a bit of noise reduction and reverb added to the recording, and it was sped up by 220%. You can see the sheet music used scroll down in the video as the music plays. It doesn’t have the variations that came with the later editions, some are so incredibly nice, but it’s the version I got so I’m playing it :) I’ve already looked around in hopes of acquiring some flashier ones on the cheap, but it’s really low on my priorities for now.

The .wav file is also available on this bandcamp page, free to listen or download.

Classical Nightcore?

I’m at looking into fixing up the -bda- gallery page at this point. There’s four items to add so far, and I’ve worked up a better layout and such on the notepads. Going to start a new sequence after the digital-guin. Not restarting the numbering just creating sections with the current series starting off at beurq and spooky, then 022, 023 and so on.

I’ll keep on adding photos of the picture frames as I get funds to print them and stuff, but I’ll move that to a different page, and have the main gallery display the digital versions with links for downloading the highest quality file.

#024, codename “selfie”, was shared already on mastodon.social, you can check it out if you want, I guess. In any case, if you’ve read or scrolled this far, have a preview of #028. No name on this one.

Am aiming at posting all the newly finished bda along with the updated gallery page by the end of this coming weekend.
